Required Tools (not included)

Before you start, have these on hand:

  • Calipers or Fine Ruler
  • Razor Blade
  • Straight Edge
  • Microfiber Cloth
  • Alcohol wipes

Prepare Your Scope

  1. Remove the scope and rings/mount from the rifle. You do not need to remove the scope from the rings or mount.
  2. Remove all accessories from the scope: old decals, tape, lens caps, bungees, and any clip-on items.
  3. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  4. Clean the scope using the included alcohol wipes. Scrub off dirt, residue, or scuffed paint. If you previously had stickers or tape, use acetone or nail polish remover to remove any adhesive residue.
  5. Wipe the scope with a microfiber cloth to remove lint and dust.
  6. Install the sunshade snugly, as you would for normal use.

Apply the Wrap

Use the following steps for every pre-cut section:

A) Peel the desired section from the sheet.

B) Avoid touching large areas of the adhesive side. The material is forgiving, but cleaner handling produces better results.

C) Align first, press later. Center the wrap on the top of the scope section and lightly lay it in place — no pressure yet. You can lift and reapply multiple times as long as you haven't burnished it down. Leave a tiny gap (about the width of a hair) between the edge of the scope section and the edge of the wrap.

D) Tack a narrow starting strip and confirm alignment by gently rolling it on and off. Once you're satisfied, press that starting strip firmly. Then peel back to that point and slowly work the wrap around the tube, watching both edges to keep the gap consistent. Do not apply firm pressure until alignment is confirmed and bubbles are worked out.

E) Overlap at the ends on the bottom (rifle) side of the scope is expected. Use the included squeegee to press the vinyl down and push air out of the overlap ridge.

Notes for Conical/Tapered Sections

Conical sections may require extra mock-up positioning to maintain an even gap around the edges. If you haven't pressed firmly, you can peel and reapply easily.

Tip: The vinyl can stretch slightly during application. If alignment is almost perfect, a gentle angled stretch can even out the gap — just avoid introducing bubbles or creases.

Fit Kit (Between Turret Housing and Rings/Mount)

  1. Measure the gap you want to wrap. Cut the fit-kit piece slightly narrower than the gap to match the small edge gaps used on the main panels.
  2. Mark the fit-kit cutting guides (printed at 0.1" intervals), then use a straightedge and razor blade to cut the piece. Use light pressure — try not to cut through both the vinyl and the paper backing.
  3. Apply the piece. Repeat for any additional gaps.

Final Step

Do a final pass over all sections to ensure everything is firmly pressed down. Enjoy your new Impact Kote wrap.

Troubleshooting

I have bubbles under the wrap. Small bubbles can often be massaged out toward the nearest edge using your squeegee or a fingernail. If the wrap hasn't been fully burnished down yet, peel it back to just before the bubble and reapply slowly, smoothing as you go. For stubborn bubbles in a fully pressed section, a very fine pin prick at the edge of the bubble — followed by pressing flat — can release trapped air without affecting the finish.

The edges are lifting. This is almost always a surface prep issue. Peel the section back, clean the area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe, let it dry completely, and reapply. Make sure you're pressing the edges down firmly with the squeegee during application, not just the center.

My alignment is off. If you haven't burnished it down firmly, you can still peel and reapply — the adhesive is designed for repositioning up to a point. If one edge is slightly wider than the other on a tapered section, try the gentle angled stretch technique described above before fully committing.

The wrap won't sit flat on the conical/tapered section. Tapered sections need more mock-up time than straight tube sections. Peel, reposition, and check the gap on both sides before pressing anything. Small wrinkles on a taper usually mean the wrap needs to be rotated slightly before pressing down.

There's adhesive residue left from old tape or stickers. Acetone or nail polish remover on a cloth will dissolve most residues. Let it fully evaporate before applying the wrap — any remaining solvent will compromise adhesion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reposition the wrap after pressing it down? Yes, as long as you haven't fully burnished it. The adhesive is designed to allow repositioning during application. Once you've done a firm final press with the squeegee, repositioning becomes more difficult and risks stretching the material.

How long until the wrap is fully cured/bonded? The wrap will be secure immediately after application, but adhesion continues to strengthen over the first 24–48 hours. Avoid soaking it in water or heavy abrasion during that window if possible.

Is the wrap waterproof? Yes. Once fully applied and pressed down, Impact Kote wraps are weather and moisture resistant and designed to hold up in field conditions.

Will it damage my scope's finish? No. The adhesive is designed to be removable without leaving residue or damaging coatings, as long as the scope finish is intact. If your scope has flaking or damaged paint, that paint may lift with the wrap — not something caused by the wrap itself.

What do I do with leftover fit-kit material? Store unused pieces in the original sheet with the paper backing replaced over the adhesive side. Keep it flat in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight for best shelf life.

My scope isn't listed — will the wrap still fit? Impact Kote wraps are cut for specific scope models. If we don't have yours listed, contact us and we will work with you to accommodate your scope.

Can I use this on other gear besides scopes? The vinyl and adhesive are designed for scope tubes, but many customers have used fit-kit material on other gear like tripods and magazines. Results will vary depending on the surface texture.
